A Whole Child Approach

What is a Whole Child Approach?

The Whole Child Approach, also known as the Montessori Method, is the approach that Spring Academy takes. At Spring Academy, we know that gifted children are more than their academic achievement. Although intellectual development is essential, we also strive to foster social, emotional, cognitive and physical development that promotes creativity, curiosity, individuality and social growth for our students. 


We achieve this through language development activities based on the Montessori Method, hands craft, gross motor play, indoor and outdoor recreation, creative movement and music with our Enrichment programs.


Our warm, loving staff is integral to the success of our program. They are skilled professionals who offer children affection, compassion and guidance.


The intimacy of our preschool allows parents and teachers to work together in the best interest of each individual child. Spring Academy has varied options to serve the diverse needs of your family.

  1. Teacher’s role is guiding, directing and re-directing; child actively participates in learning. 
  2. Environment and method encourage internal self-discipline. 
  3. Individual and group instruction adapts to each student’s learning style.
  4. Mixed age grouping enables transition of Follower-Performer-Leader.
  5. Children encouraged to collaborate and help each other. 
  6. With guidance from the teacher, child chooses own work from Interest and Abilities. 
  7. A balance between freedom and Structured coexists. 
  8. Organized program for learning are of self and self-care. 
  9. Learning from hands on materials

  1. Teacher role is dominant, active; child is a passive participant.
  2. Teacher is primary enforcer of external discipline.
  3. Individual and group instruction adapts to the adult’s leaning style.
  4. Same age grouping
  5. Most teaching done by teacher and collaboration is discouraged.
  6. Curriculum structured with little Regard for child’s interest.
  7. Child assigned seat and be restricted.
  8. Little emphasis on instruction or classroom maintenance.
  9. Mostly purely lectures by teachers.
