Spring Academy Opens its Doors in Westfield with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony!

The sun was shining down on Spring Academy Saturday morning as teachers, staff, students, parents, neighbors, and town officials celebrated the grand opening of Spring Academy’s new location at 115 East Grove Street in Westfield.

The day began at 10:00 am with guests sprinkling in a few at a time to tour the new preschool/learning center and meet Spring Academy staff, easily identified in their bright blue t-shirts. Teachers were in classrooms greeting guests and leading craft and science lessons. Several Westfield businesses/organizations came out too to show support of Spring Academy with tables of products, services and special coupons. A big thank you goes out to Sole Shoes in Westfield, Checkmate in Rahway, Vine Ripe Markets in Westfield and the Westfield American Chinese Association.

At 11:00 am Westfield Mayor Shelley Brindle began the ribbon-cutting ceremony. She addressed the crowd thanking Spring Academy for bringing cultural and geographic diversity to Westfield. Gene Janotti, President of the Greater Westfield Chamber of Commerce and Board members Darielle    Walsh,  Mike    Martin, Jim Mooney and Heather Bryant followed by welcoming Spring Academy to the community. Lastly, Spring Academy Director Jill Ji thanked the crowd for coming out and supporting her school.

The ceremony concluded with a group of Spring Academy students singing a song in Chinese and reciting a poem in English.

Ji spoke of her difficulty finding a reputable Montessori pre-school when her daughters were young. With no luck, she and her husband Bruce Huang decided to fill the missing need in her community by co-founding the first Spring Academy in North Brunswick. Since then, she has opened three other Spring Academy locations in Warren, Garwood and Scotch Plains. (The students from the Garwood and Scotch Plains will relocate to the more spacious and convenient Westfield location.) Ji’s experience as an English teacher in China and her certification in the United States as a Montessori teacher was instrumental in helping her develop a strong academic curriculum at Spring Academy. The curriculum includes a Montessori philosophy with

language immersion programs in Chinese and Spanish. Spots are still available for the school year at both Spring Academy locations in Westfield and Warren. To schedule a tour or learn more about Spring Academy contact Jill Ji at 908-360-5158 or SpringAcademy168@gmail.com
